The Harlots of Nashville? Have the Dixie Chicks Moved On?

I used to listen to a lot of country music. I'm a southerner what would you expect? I have recently noticed I don't listen to it much anymore. I can't remember the last time I bought a country CD. Yes I do, it was 2003. I admit it, I lost my taste for country music due to the hypocrisy of the industry, the radio stations the entertainers and the fans.

Yes it's the Dixie Chicks fault that I am not a country music fan anymore. I am however still a fan of the Dixie Chicks. The incident and all the uproar about it in the states drove home to me the double standard of the industry as well the willingness of it's performers to shamelessly use the situation to promote their own careers by catering to the intolerant, pseudo patriotic and redneck, yes I said redneck, wing of country music fans.

It's okay to record and mass market music that not only endorses a war but encourages the US to start invading other countries putting the lives of American soldiers in harms way, but it's not okay to make statement in front of a few thousand people criticizing the Presidents decision to go to war and risk the lives of thousand of American and British Soldiers. That's some twisted logic.

So "The Harlots of Nashville" have moved on and myself and many others have moved on with them. They seem to be doing quite well. They have released a new album, "Taking the Long Way" and it seem to be a success worldwide without airplay on most US country radio stations.

So the The Dixie Chicks have lost their base of country music fans but appear to be gaining the world of music fans. Country music has lost The Dixie Chicks and some fans but what have they gained?

There is one thing I wish they had done differently, I really wish they had given this apology.

What is your useless point? Our troops sign up, knowing good and well that they might have to fight. The ones that sign up thinking that they will never have to fight for this country, but only gain all the benefits need to re-think their decisions. Please, surely you recognized that I used the phrase THEIR DECISIONS. You and tghe Dixe Quicks need to leave this wonderful country. As I told them, please go talk "nice and sweet" to the terrorists and see how far it gets you. Whenever we find your beaten, headless, raped body, we (as great americans) will pick you up. However, please know that the terrorists will not do your make-up BEFORE they cut your head off. So, unless you want to be seen with "no make-up, boohoo", then I suggest you not speak too sweet to them.

To Liz,

It seems to me that if you have a problem with this country, the way it's run, the people running it, or anything of the like, it is considered (according to the bill of rights and the constitution on which this great country is founded) your patriotic duty, to critisize, condemn and seek help in getting the country back where it belongs. As for talking nice and sweet to terrorists? We don't want terrorist any more than you do, however, can we please focus on the fact that OUR troops are dealing terror now too! From rape to torture, where do we get the right to do to them what they did to us? I believe the Bible and Jesus both proclaim, Do Unto Others as Ye Would Have Done Unto You. This does not mean, Repeat what The Bastards have done to me until their Gone from the Earth. It means that while we cannot and should not turn the other cheek, repeating the crime done to us, makes us worse, not better than they are. As for our troops, I support them, I also wish and hope and pray for them to come home. Their decision as you put it, was to protect and defend America, not put in place a puppet government and rape, pillage and slaughter defenseless individuals in countries the names of which you have the misfortune of being unable to spell.

Liz,
So nice to know that my status as a Veteran of the U.S. Army does not even afford me the priviledge of living in this Country once I have said something you disagree with. By the way I know you people are not really found of the Constitution but that little document says I have every right to live in this country, you see I am an American citizen. Perhaps you could get your Senator to propose a Constitutional Amendment allowing you to take away the ctizenship of those who disagree with you.
